While some people benefit from the combination of medication and therapy, many people find that therapy without medication is sufficient to address their concerns and feel better. Therapy may entail individual therapy, couples therapy, or family therapy services. The initial psychological evaluation will involve you and the therapist working together to figure out a tailored treatment specific to your needs and challenges. The literature strongly supports the use of psychotherapy as a primary treatment.

Although many people in therapy find it more than sufficient to make meaningful changes in their life, some people continue to experience high levels of depression, distress, anxiety, or mood dysregulation to such levels that medication is necessary. Despite how much medication can help, people are often nervous and uncomfortable with taking medication for a number of reasons. This is normal and reasonable. Taking medication requires careful consideration and understanding regarding the expected effect of medication. If you and your therapist feel that medication might be necessary, please schedule an appointment for an initial evaluation.
